Peppertree Art Show

What procedures do you follow when selecting new artists to participate in the Peppertree Art Show?

The Artist Selection at the Peppertree Art Show is a very unique process. For over 30 years the Peppertree Art Show has meticulously chosen artists based on their exceptional talents and attention to detail. Subject matter, medium, and consistency are always taken into consideration when choosing an artist. While in the position of replacing a vacancy, we try to select an artist who possesses similar attributes to the departing artist. By following these procedures, we can ensure a well-balanced art show creating a diversified and energetic atmosphere for our guests as well as for our participating artists. Artists interested in participating in the Peppertree Art Show are asked to submit photos and/or digital images of their most recent art work, including an artist biography and price structure. It is very important that each artist submits only their most recent art work to our Review Board. Please send your information to: Peppertree Art Show, 3631 Roblar Avenue, Santa Ynez, CA. 93460.

What subject matter is recognized in the Peppertree Art Show?

The Peppertree Art Show, created by Irma C. Eubanks back in 1976, primarily consisted of cowboy western artwork. Over the years however, we have transformed from a predominantly Western theme to include subjects of Southwest/Americana, Native American, and Contemporary artwork. We will continue to maintain the greatest selection of Western artists while at the same time offering a wide selection of the best Southwest and Contemporary artists representing the art of America.

What are you looking for when determining if an artist is accepted in the Peppertree Art Show?

There are several aspects that we look for when selecting an artist to participant in the Peppertree Art Show. Quality, consistency, subject matter, and media are very important attributes that we take into consideration when reviewing each artist portfolio. However, we are also looking for well-defined composition, detail put forth in backgrounds, facial and body proportions, shadows, highlights and lighting. Artwork that possesses "feeling" is very important to our show. Because of the high level of energy and pleasant atmosphere that we create in each of our shows, certain subject matters do poorly in our environment and demographics. These would include: Civil War, torture, detailed killings of humans and animals, as well as dark subjects and colors in framed artwork. Additional subjects we avoid are whimsical and cartoon related.

What mediums are accepted in the Peppertree Art Show?

Normally, artwork displayed in the Peppertree Art Show are developed in oil, acrylic, pastel, water color, pencil, and tempera, on canvas, paper, or board. Our sculptures are of bronze, stone, wood, and paper. Although these have been our preferred selection of medium in the past, we would be happy to review other mediums in order to determine whether they would be appropriate for our show. Only original artwork will be accepted!! Although we recognized photography as an incredible art media, it is currently not an accepted media in our shows.

Several art shows judge and place awards on the artwork displayed. Why has the Peppertree Art Show decided not to judge the artwork displayed in its show?

We expect each and every participating artists to submit "only" their finest works of art in every one of our shows. Artists participating in the Peppertree Art Show realize how powerful this show really is. It is our belief that judging one professional artist against another only creates undue pressures and animosities. A first place awarded by one judge may not be the opinion of another. After all, art is only in the eyes of the beholder.

What is the minimum price per piece of artwork displayed in the Peppertree Art Show?

Currently, the minimum price per piece of original artwork shown at Peppertree Art Show is $1,000.00. There is no ceiling cap
