Artist Bio: SUSAN VON BORSTEL
Susan von Borstel is a nationally recognized western artist offering original oil paintings on both stone and canvas. She started painting horses at a young age and went on to receive a BA degree from the University of Colorado in Zoology and Art.
Following a trip to Spain, where the beautifully patterned quarried stone deeply affected her, she began painting on stone using "nature's patterns" to suggest her subjects. Due to her exceptional attention to detail and unique style, Susan has sold over 190 of her stone creations to people who are excited by the patterns of nature.
Susan has completed several commissions of horses and dogs using shape and expression to suggest deeper, hidden meanings which give her works "staying power". She was chosen to depict 20 horse breeds for the multi-million dollar Kentucky Horse Park Museum in Lexington, KY. She has won many awards, including the People's Choice award at a National Show of the American Academy of Equine Art. She has taught art and has participated as an art show judge. Her work has appeared on the covers of many magazines, in articles and in several art galleries.
She now resides in the beautiful picturesque city of Davis California.
