Artist Bio: ARTURO TELLO
Arturo Tello, born near Mexico City in 1954, came to the United States when he was 14. After receiving a degree in art at San Jose State University, he settled in a small community wedged between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Santa Barbara Channel.
Arturo loves the area in which he lives and he views his work as a celebration of the natural landscapes that surround him. Tello's paintings are executed with a skill that combines a keen eye for form and design, a superb sense of color and a flawless painting technique. Unlike most landscape painters who seek the lonely grandeur found in remote parts of the west, Tello feels little inclination to paint far away from the area he has come to love. That is why his works are filled with an intimacy born of long familiarity with his locale, a deep reverence and love for his subjects as well as an eye that is well aware of climatic conditions and light.
Arturo not only appreciates the beauty of the open spaces that surround us, but also is willing to do his best to protect them through his involvement as board member of the Citizens for the Carpinteria Bluffs. As co-founder of the OAK group, for the past 19 years he has helped to organize numerous benefit shows for environmental and preservation organizations. Arturo's work is represented by the Easton Gallery in Santa Barbara and the John Pence Gallery in San Francisco.
