Artist Bio: SCOTT ROGERS
Scott Rogers - Growing up in McKinney, Texas, Scott Rogers never gave much thought to art. Football, rodeo, golden gloves boxing, and stories about the Wild West occupied all his time and most of his imagination. In college he majored in finance and accounting and after graduation went to work in the oil and gas leasing business and prospered. Then in 1990, at the age of 29, he purchased a sculpture by Grant Speed. After six months of savoring the energy and artistry in that bronze, he woke up one morning and said, "I can do that."
Eight years and more than seventy bronzes after deciding to sculpt, Scott has enjoyed artistic and commercial success that he never imagined. Several attributes conspire to produce such success, including a strong work ethic and an ability to see and rotate complex three-dimensional forms in his mind's eye. Add the originality of his concepts and his overriding commitment to the artistic principles of composition, and the results are compelling and unique.
"Works of art are emotional fingerprints. I desire my work to be an instant conduit to a rich body of knowledge, (i.e. balance, design, anatomy, culture, and history). My greatest desire in sculpting is to have the emotional context of a bronze exceed its physical confines". Scott uses clay as a means to honor and immortalize the people and the indomitable spirit that opened up the West a century ago.
Scott Rogers now resides in Taylorsville, Utah.
