Artist Bio: RICHARD MYER
Richard Myer a native of New York City, spent endless hours sketching, modeling clay and carving wooden figures while growing up. Summers were spent at the family farm in Pennsylvania where he enjoyed constant discovery and complete freedom to explore all forms of art. When he was 12 he vacationed with the family in the West visiting Indian reservations and historical ruins. The rugged West and all its scenic beauty filled him with awe and wonder and he vowed he would return.
He did return and earned his BA degree in Fine Arts at the Brigham Young University of Utah. He was the first bronze sculptor at the University and later became an instructor. He returned to New York City where he took advanced studies at the Art Students League and the Sculpture Center, The American Art School and the Salmagundi Club. While in the East he was Art Director for Jas. H. Matthews until moving to California in 1970 where he began his professional career as a full time sculptor.
Richard has exhibited in many prestigious art shows and galleries. He has done professional designs for a number of firms including Walt Disney Studios, and a life-size model of a bear fighting a bull for the Tokyo Stock Exchange. This past year he completed three 8-ft bronzes for a memorial park in Illinois and was commissioned to sculpt the marker for John Wayne's unmarked grave in Newport. CA. He is currently working on an 8-ft. sculpture of Frank Miller, founder of the Mission Inn at Riverside, CA. Richard and his wife Maurine own Rossmyer Gallery in Glendora.
