Artist Bio: KARA CASTRO
Born in Michigan, Kara's love of art and outstanding talent could be seen as early as childhood. While still in high school, she began selling her artwork in art shows and galleries as well as to private collectors. Her paintings display a tight realism seldom seen with watercolors and normally focus on portraiture and equine subjects.
Kara's paintings have earned her several "Best of Show" awards and continually gain recognition nation wide. She is the recipient of the 2005 California Watercolor Association's Gold Medal Award and the 2007 Art Kudos International Competition's Best of Show artist. She has also received numerous State Fair awards, including two Juror's Awards. Additionally, the artist has twice been a finalist in the prestigious Art Renewal Center's and The Artist's Magazine's International Competitions. Among others, Kara's work has been featured in Art Business News, Southwest Art, Watercolor Magic, American Artist's, Watercolor and Art-Talk Magazines. Also look for her work in a future issue of Fine Art Connoisseur magazine.
Through her skillful use of watercolors and by carefully selecting her un-posed models and settings to build the right scene and composition Kara creates a style that is uniquely her own.
In 1989 the artist moved to California where she now resides with her husband and children.
