Artist Bio: HOWARD CARR

Howard Carr once a childhood actor, has become one of the country's most exciting Southwest landscape painters. Howard Carr was born in Palm Springs, California in the late' 40.s. He and his family remained in the Los Angeles area which allowed Howard some opportunities that the rest of the world can only dream about. After being "discovered" at age nine, and with the advent of color television, Howard parlayed his perfect "AII-American" look -red hair, speckled complexion and blue eyes -into a career as a young actor much in demand.

From 1956 to 1961 Howard was featured in supporting roles in top television series such as The Real McCoys; Leave It to Beaver, The Ernie Ford Show, The Rifleman, The Betty Hutton Show, My Three Sons, The Danny Thomas Show, and Dick Powell's Mystery Theater. When his parents moved from the Los Angeles area, his Hollywood career came to an end. After studying illustration and cartooning at the prestigious Chouinard Art School, Howard found Uncle Sam needed him more than the graphics industry. After returning from Vietnam, Howard eventually veered from commercial art to full-time painting.

It's as if Howard Carr were predestined for this course: his unique way of expressing himself through his paintings translates the way Howard sees the beauty of the world for all of us to enjoy. The excitement and emotion of his work offers each of us an exciting visual experience. Howard Carr's name has been among the Top 100 finalists of the annual Arts for the Parks competition, and he has been a popular teacher. Now Howard is enjoying his leisure time as an artist traveling in the summertime, plein air painting and gathering materials and ideas. He relaxes in the wintertime creating bigger paintings from his summer sketches.
