Artist Bio: CHERI CAPPELLO

Cheri Cappello - The connection and deep reverence that Cheri feels for our Native People began as a child. Born and raised on a large cattle and sheep ranch in Colorado, long hours were spent exploring the tepee rings, burial mounds, and ancient encampments on the family ranch. Cheri collected artifacts and arrowheads while working the ranch. Her respect and kinship grew through the years, which were fueled with education and real life experiences. Working side by side with her grandfather, Cheri learned the art of running trap lines and tanning and preparing skins and furs. She learned to hunt and fish, adding to the family's food stores and preserving a way of life. At the same time she learned the incredible value of nature, animal life and the bond that runs between man and the land. She felt it was important to become a steward of the land and a champion of its native citizens.

It seemed only natural that Cheri would create art that would demonstrate her love for the Native Americans, the land, and a lost way of life. Each of her pieces are one of a kind -museum quality pieces. They are historically true to the 1800s war shirts. The final work involves hours of research and meticulous handwork. The striking works are created from elk and buckskin. They are painstakingly brought to life with fine beadwork and authentic adornments. The result is a powerful statement of our great Native American culture.

You can find Cheri's work in public and private collections across the country and in Europe and Africa. She is represented by many fine galleries, and has won numerous awards at many prestigious national and international shows.

Cheri owns and operates a ranch in the mountains of Colorado with her husband and children. She continues to enjoy the western lifestyle she grew up loving. Cheri's art work is her way of honoring and demonstrating her respect for our Native American heritage.
